It’s getting hot

In this painting I was inspired by the sensory experience of eating chilies—visually seductive, vibrant, almost irresistible. Their glossy surfaces and intense colors invite you in, promising flavor and pleasure.

But the moment you take the first bite, everything changes. The heat unfolds slowly, then all at once. There is no way back. Your mouth ignites, your body reacts, and you are fully immersed in the sensation—burning, overwhelming, exhilarating for some, unbearable for others.

This duality mirrors our relationship with climate change. What may feel like a pleasant rise in temperature for some—a longer summer, a day at the beach—becomes a harsh, inescapable reality for others. Extreme heat, vulnerability, and imbalance reveal that the experience is not shared equally.

Like the chili, the warning was always there—bright, visible, impossible to ignore. And yet, we chose to take the bite.
